Benidorm is holding the 20th National Electronic darts Championship at the Palau Municipal d’Esports l’Illa sports complex.
The competition has attracted more than 10,000 visitors to Benidorm.The town is hosting the event for the third year running.There are 500 teams taking part and there are 8,500 competitors who have brought with them 4000 supporters.All of this has provided a real boost for local businesses in a time when things are very tough for all resorts.It is expected that this influx of people into the town will engender around 3 million euros over the 4 day period.The Mayor has said that he and his staff are working very hard to bring the competition back to the town in 2012.It will be the Mayor who throws the first three darts .
The winners of this competition will go on to compete in the World championships in Las Vegas.
Youngsters from age 12 to 17 in Javea are heping each other with their respective languages.British and Spanish schoolchildren are taking part in a conversation exchange to help improve their knowledge of each others languages.There is a newly launched youth organisation,Monjove and they will attend Monjove’s headquarters for 45 minute sessions in March ,April and may.They will have tutors present who will help them get started.The new youth club is also open in the evening to enable the young people to get help with their homework.
This is an ideal solution for those who find it difficult to work at home or whose parents work in the evenings.Once again tutors are on hand to help with those who require it.After 18.30 there are more fun activities which enable young people to relax with friends.The Monjove centre is in the casa de Cultura in Javea.
This year the Moraira Moors and Christians Association is organising an amateur photographers competition in the town.The first prize will be 200 euros and the theme includes just about any angle on the Moors and Christians festivities.The pictures can be in colour or black and white.They have to be mounted on 40cm x50cm card,have a title and also be accompanied by a CD Rom version of 300 pixels.Entries have to be given in to the town hall in Moraira before may 31.The winner will be chosen on June 5.
Residents in Alfaz del Pi can now acquire their documents and pay bills with a new machine fitted in the entrance of the town hall.Previously fees had to be paid via the local bank but now it can be done in the town hall.The machine even gives change.The aim is to reduce bureaucracy and make life easier for residents.
Finestrat ambulance was donated to the town by Caja Murcia and it has been kept very busy according to statistics released by the service.In 2009 373 calls were answered .183 in La Cala ,76 in the town centre ,31 in rural districts ,16 on newly built urbanisations and 13 in the la tapia area.
The water deposito in La Nucia’s Bello Horizonte is having special work done on it to improve the quality of the water.The deposito supplies drinking water to Bello Horizonte ,Mirimar and Puerto Azul urbanisations.
The town hall is spending over 5000 euros on the work at the deposito at Calle Reykiavik which should be finished by the end of March. The town hall has also released statistics about the use of the library in la Nucia and last year 28,000 people used the library which is an increase of 20% on 2008.Ten thousand of these users were for the internet service while 17,000 were for the borrowing of books.During january nearly 200 people a day visited the library.
In Villajoyosa the mayor has opened a new square in the historic old part of the town.The square is on the site of the old El Castell school and has been designed to fit in with the existing architecture and traditional materials have been used.Special panels depicting the history of the town have been included and their is a picturesque drinking fountain.There were a number of local dignitaries at the event.
