Paragliding Accident in Santa Pola

Whilst paragliding near the lighthouse in Santa Pola a man hit a rock face and plummeted more than 70 metres to the ground .

A team of men and a helicopter crew nearly 3 hours to retrieve the man’s body .

The man was identified as a Guardia Civil Officer from Murcia.

The horrific accident was witnessed by the man’s wife and nine year old son




ETA in Torremolinos

A small explosive device went off in Torremolinos on Tuesday . The explosion was on the promenade just after midnight .

It is thought to be the work of ETA.

Another bomb exploded in roadworks on the A8 motorway in the north of Spain on Monday .

There were no injuries in either event .The latter explosion did destroy six work cabins in the town of Orio.

The company is involved in building a motorway between Bilboa and the French border.




Toddler Drowns at Elche

A third little girl has drowned on the Costa Blanca.

A 2 year old French girl drowned in a pool in Elche this week. The tragedy took place in a pool on an urbanisation called Torreazul.

She and her three brothers arrived only days earlier to holiday with their father . He lives at the rented house all year round .

Whilst the father was talking on the phone and the rest of the family watched television the little girl went missing .

She was found face down beneath a lilo by her elder brother .

Samu ambulance paramedics were unable to revive her .




Swimming Races on The Costa Blanca

There have been and are going to be many swimming races along the Costa Blanca this summer .

The 12th annual swim from Tabarca  Island to Santa Pola has an entry of 415 swimmers .

They battled against choppy seas and strong currents to cover the 5,700 metres from the island to the mainland last Sunday .

The winner was from Elda but there were also strong teams from La Nucia.

Hopefully there will be better conditions for the races at Moraira and Denia this coming weekend .

Two Child Drownings in Axarquia, Anadalucia

There have been two tragedies on the Costa del Sol this week , both in the town of Axarquia .

The first involved a little girl of seven who was found at the bottom of an hotel swimming pool . Emergency services were unable to revive her .

Later an emergency helicopter was sent to Competa because of a 3 year old  in a swimming accident  and once again the child could not be revived .
