The KM pub on the Levante beach in Benidorm ,went up in a blaze of fire on Monday night .

The bar was full of customers at the time and the place filled with smoke very quickly , causing the emergency services to be summoned .

The bar was evacuated because the blaze became so bad as a fear for the safety of the customers .

Once the blaze was extinguished the owners closed for the night to enable them to clear up the mess .

A fire in Calpe wiped out almost 7000 square metres of scrubland last week and it was most likely caused by a carelessly dropped cigarette .

Five homes needed to be evacuated , as a precaution, and around two hours later the residents were allowed to return to their homes .

The blaze started during the very early morning when Guardia Civil , local police and firefighters were called to the scene .

There were no injuries or damage to property .

The department which issues licenses , in San Fulgencio , to those who wish to run a taxi service is going to clamp down heavily on anyone who is running such a service without a license .

People doing airport runs and charging , could face four figure fines and also have their cars impounded .

Residents who use their cars as taxi services could face penalties of 4 to 6 thousand euros plus criminal proceedings .

The local police and the Guardia Civil are all to aware of the excuses that people give when questioned and it seems that this is a widespread problem amongst expat communities .

The area inland from the Costa Azahar has already been subjected to fires in the countryside .

The town of Simat de la Valldigna , near Valencia ,had a blaze which destroyed 9 hectares of forest . They think that that fire may have been started by a passing motorist throwing a cigarette out of a car window .

The latest fire has encroached closer to the town and there was evidence that the blaze was started deliberately . They discovered a bottle which had previously been filled with petrol.

Police are attempting to trace the arsonists .
