Last week a new baby arrived at Terra Natura in Benidorm , a rare Siamang monkey .

It is the first to be born in the theme park . It is native to Malaysia and is a form of gibbon and therefore more ape than monkey .

Its behaviour is also unusual in that for the first year the mother does the caring , nothing unusual there , but then it is the father who takes over the caring .

These animals are listed as endangered . They can live for up to 25 years in the wild but for longer in captivity . They usually mate for life .

The mayors of various Costa Blanca towns went to school with infant and primary school children last Monday .

The mayor of Torrevieja has said that it is one of the only councils which pays all of students transport costs and over 6,000 youngsters registered at the towns 14 schools .

In Benidorm over 5000 children registered and the mayor visited one school celebrating its 25 years of being open .

Alfaz del Pi opened a new school with six infant classes and twelve primary classes plus a gymnasium , dining room and other facilities .. Over 1400 children returned to school here .

Tarbena also opened a new school .

News - San Pedro, Murcia Province Costa Calida Spain

The town council of San Pedro del Pinatar is supporting an English speaking group that want to promote mutual understanding within the community .

The group is organising four educational sessions on local agriculture , traditional fishing , urban nature and local traditions .

There will be hands on activities and trips included as well as talks and discussions .

The project is open to 35 English speaking residents and the aim is to bring English and spanish together .

MUSIC News

To enable music teachers to be supported in the Torrevieja music school , the regional government has awarded it 175,000 euros . The Maestro Casanovas music school is based in the Music Palace and offers a wide variety of courses including trombone , flute , piano and violin .

Young people are already enrolling for the courses available   .

ART News

Torrevieja has an important history in the fishing industry and a painting exhibition has just opened at the Virgen del Carmen cultural centre which depicts this heritage , it is entitled ” Vela Latina “.

TOURISM News

New booklets are now available in four languages and outlines the close relationship which Torrevieja has with the sea .

News - Denia Costa Blanca Alicante Spain

As the end of the summer draws near , the tourism councillor of Denia ,  has released figures about occupation of the various amenities of the town during the summer .

At the end of August hotel occupancy was 79 %, campsites reached 87 % and house rentals were 75 %.

These figures are down 5 % on the same period last year , which is not regarded as significant in the present economic climate .

September figures are predicted to be 55% occupancy but this can change significantly depending on the weather .

The tourist information centres have had over 40,000 visitors with the balance being towards Spanish visitors  ( 54 % ) and the rest from abroad ( 45 %).
