Altea’s Conversation Club

Tuesday 29 September 2009 @ 8:40 pm

The foreign residents department in Altea on the Costa Blanca are organising another edition of its very successful “Conversation Club”.The councillor who runs the department has said that last year 80 people took part in the club activities and experienced the fact that it was a much better way to learn a language than the more formal methods.

The students took part in activities which involved food, reading, discussions about articles in the Spanish press, concerts and learning about Spanish music. The man in charge of the conversation club organised all of these activities .The club had three main objectives and they were a)to learn Spanish b) to learn about the Spanish culture and c) to enjoy the experience.

It gave those foreign residents of Altea ,who had learned some Spanish, the opportunity to put what they had learned into practice. The course is graded for those who are inexperienced and just beginning to learn the language to those who are much more advanced. The course costs 20 euros per month.

Denia Beaches

Tuesday 29 September 2009 @ 7:17 pm

There would be very little wrong with dogs going on the beaches in Denia or anywhere else if only owners were responsible people and picked up any excrement dropped by their pets.Sadly owners are rarely responsible and just allow their pooches to defecate anywhere.Despite warning signs telling people that it is illegal to walk your dog on the beaches ,it is still done. The local police in Denia are always receiving complaints about it.

It appears that out of 121 complaints and beach incidents,53 of them concerned dogs on the beach and often in the water. Many of the complaints involved Les deveses and Les Marines beaches.Other breaches of the by-law involved illegal fishing, the illegal parking of caravans and problems caused by windsurfers.

There have also been serious problems this summer with “botellon”parties on the beaches and a number of fines have been handed out.The security councillor for Denia was full of praise for the local police and their dedication to their work.

Teulada News-Price Hike

Tuesday 29 September 2009 @ 4:40 pm

In Teulada on the Costa Blanca the socialist opposition are demanding to know why there has been such a price hike in the building of the new municipal auditorium. The price has gone up by 4 million euros .Now that is a lot of money. The socialists are set to take legal action against the council unless there is an explanation.

Quite understandably they want to know exactly what this money is paying for.If it is just delayed work or costings which weren’t seen in the original scheme or just problems with executing the work within the schedule then the socialists are saying that someone is responsible .

The council is saying that everything is on schedule and that they are attempting to get the regional government to pay the extra costs. The original cost was 6.7 million euros and now it is over 8 million euros—that is an enormous increase and it appears that it is approved by the council.

The opposition has complained that uncertainty about the way in which the project has been financed by the regional government and the fact that the Teulada council has to come up with 2.3 million euros to fit the place out ,is causing many to question just how the project  was planned and the funding assessed in the first place.

If the council cannot or will not be transparent about it all then they will go to the public prosecutor for them to investigate.

Maritime Land Boundries In Calpe

Tuesday 29 September 2009 @ 2:17 pm

Those Calpe residents who could be affected by the Ley de Costa and the maritime land boundries are grouping together and they met for the first at the Casa de Cultura last week with the mayor and his staff to discuss their concerns.

It appears that about 1000 residents who live between Penon Ifach and Benissa are affected by the changing of these boundries. However the head of the provincial coast department has told them not to worry.

It is always better to feel safe than sorry and these people have a number of concers. They may not be able to sell their properties or the value of the properties will hit rock bottom or they won’t have any property to worry about because it will have been pulled down.

The mayor is doing all that he can to find out just what is going to happen and he is seeking the support  of all residents. He wants the plans to be annulled. The residents are now going to form an association which will help them to fight for their rights.During the meeting it was said that all of this worry is presenting a very bad image of Calpe. It also gives a very bad image of the laws in Spain. This type of issue makes people fel powerless about protecting their properties.

It is difficult to sell houses during the economic crisis but to sell them with these boundry changes would be impossible and for many their home represents their savings.
