The town of San Juan near Alicante is to have its sporting complex upgraded. The work will begin in November. The Provincial government in Alicante has agreed to help finance the project.
The Mayor met with the head of the provincial sport department and it was decided to award the contract for the project to Aligest SL.The Provincial government will give 360,000 euros to the project. This will go towards building a football pitch with an all weather surface.886,000 euros will be spent on a total overhaul of the athletics track, the stadium as well as the areas surrounding them.
Since the last local election the council has been carrying out a whole series of improvements which have included the building of two padel courts, the renewing of the tennis courts and the building of a new cafeteria. The Mayor has stressed the importance of good sporting facilities in any town.
The Red Cross is a very important voluntary service in Teulada on the Costa Blanca. They rely on their income from a variety of sources which includes Teulada -Moraira and Benissa town halls ,several associations, paying members and independent donations. This income hasn’t changed but the number of volunteers has changed and they are now having to provide a reduced service. It has changed in comparison with previous years.
From Friday evening to Sunday evening the Red Cross is manned by volunteers who also cover festivals and public holidays.Police and Health centres also know when they are working in case of emergencies.
From Monday to Thursday there isn’t a 24 hour service but people are still transported to hospital. The number of volunteers at this time is greatly reduced.Members who contribute to the service cannot necessarily expect a 24 hour a day service at these times.Their money helps but it doesn’t allow for that degree of cover.
It appears that many people believe that you have to be a paid up member to be able to access the service but this is not the case,it is open to all. There were those who were concerned that should they require an ambulance then it would not be available. This is not the case and people should ring 112 and ask for an ambulance should it be needed. The ambulance isĀ free and available to all residents of both towns. They would be taken to the Levante hospital in Benidorm. There is also a SAMU ambulance available.
In 1996 there was the murder of Yuri Slivinska in Benidorm and between 2006 and 2008 four British men were arrested for the murder. The trial of these four is now underway and it seems that these men could get away with the crime because of the lack of witnesses and also a lack of factual recording on behalf of the police.
It appears that prosecution witnesses from the UK failed to turn up in court and officers involved in the case seem to have forgotten many of the details of the case. One of the only witnesses to testify in court was a female friend of the victim who could only tell the court that Yuri was terrified of something and feared for his life. She was unable to say just who he was afraid of.
Prosecutors in the case are trying to get the statements made by witnesses to be accepted in court as evidence. The defence are demanding that the witnesses appear in court. The witnesses were summoned to appear according to UK law but to date they have not been located.Prosecutors are basing their case on statements made by witnesses who are now under protection. It was these statements which led to the accused men being arrested in 2006.
The prosecution is asking for sentences of 31 years but with only witness statements it might be difficult to make the accusations stick. The mother of the victim still lives in Benidorm.
This case seems, rightly or wrongly ,to revolve around a number of people who are very scared and that could allow some seriously dangerous people to walk away free into society. If these people could be persuaded to give evidence then should these men be innocent then they would still walk away free men.
