Costa Blanca News-Hiking

Friday 30 October 2009 @ 8:13 pm

Walking in the Sierra de Bernia on the Costa Blanca is a wonderful experience and now because of public demand an old path has been opened up again.Altea’s environment and tourism council has been working on this new path and it is almost ready for the public to use.

The PR-V7 route which links Altea,Callosa d’En Sarria ,Jalon and Benissa had been practically impassable and was at risk of losing its “ruta senderista’ classificationuntil an agreement between the towns was reached to clean it up and restore it to its former glory.

The work has delighted masses of walkers and now it is almost complete. The original path has been restoredĀ  and leaflets have been printed by Altea town hallĀ  on this and other walks.

Finestrat youth council is organising its second Christmas card competition. The competition is open to 4-17 year olds and also to adults from 18 to 35 but all of those participating must be registered on the town census.Entries have to be handed in by November 16.

Restoration work is taking place on the Aguilo tower in Villajoyosa. The building has now been recognised for its historic and cultural value. The restoration project was visited last week by the Culture councillor and the museum director. The watchtower is the oldesttype from the Renaissance period, dating back to 1525 or 1550.Most of the towers from this period are round and so to have a square tower is unusual..It is the only one of its kind in the province.

Denia on Screen

Friday 30 October 2009 @ 6:11 pm

The Telecinco series “Hospital Central”which is shown on ITV and has become a very popular series with the public, will be filmed in Denia next month. The scenes will be shown next year in the new series.

The town councillor for tourism sees this as a very positive thing for the town and will hopefully be seen by the public in such a favourable light that they will want to flock there as visitors.

Last week the film crew and the directors visited the town and were shown all of the most important parts ,such as the castle, the old town, the port and the beaches. These are areas which might be incorporated into the filming of the series and so publicise Denia within Spain.
