A couple who belong to a diving club in Javea and were on a diving holiday in Egypt are feared dead after the boat in which they were travelling sank in the Red Sea.

Both were experienced divers and they were part of a team of 15 people who had booked the holiday through a Javea diving club.

The accident happened shortly after the boat left port.One survivor said that the boat appeared to be listing from the outset.

The Javea couple is the only one now missing,all of the others survived the incident.They managed to reach lifeboats.It appears that the captain abandoned the boat without warning anybody and the crew had little idea of what to do.The parents of the woman who is missing has filed an official complaint in Egypt against the captain and the owner of the vessel.It seems that six weeks earlier the boat was evacuated because it was taking in water.

In the past nine months along the coast of the Costa Blanca there have been 150 dolphin sightings.The statistics come from the regional environmental council.The dolphins have been seen from the cliffs of Sierra Helada between Benidorm and Albir.

This is welcome confirmation for the area and has given the best sightings along the Valencia coastline.It is also likely to be the best along the Spanish mediterranean coast.

There are a number of floating fish factories and these provide plenty of food which could be attracting the mammals who are now practically permanent residents.

At the same time as the announcement about the dolphins the Sierra Helada  board has announced that the Poseidonia grass beds along the coast are recovering which is a very good indicator of the seas recovering.It is thought that supplying special buoys for boats has stopped these boats tearing up the sea bed and so destroyin the grasses.

Regional officials have carried out an inspection on a waste treatment plant in Campello which is pumping out foul smelling gases.The regional officials inspected the plant on October 27.The Campello council has had many complaints from local residents about the smell.Some of the residents are saying that it is causing them to be unwell.

The council has said that bio-filters had been installed but had not been changed and that the plant is not running in an efficient way.The company which runs the plant has agreed that the filters need changing but that the job has not yet been done.The council feels that the plant should be closed until this job has been completed.Then the origins of the smells could be investigated correctly.
