On December2 there will be a meeting at the Casa de Cultura in Castalla to protest about the decision of the Valencia government to withdraw free healthcare for early retirees.Residents across the region who came to live in the Valencia region because they were assured of free healthcare, will now have to spend 270 euros a quarter to obtain the same service. They are all wanting the Valencia government to reverse their decision.
The campaign began in Orihuela Costa with PUMA22 website being inundated with support from expats. Many are saying that the free healthcare was a deciding factor in them coming to the region. They say that they now feel deceived by the government. It appears that the information that they had been given was possibly erroneous in the first place.
As well as the meeting in Castalla there will also be a march in Alicante on December 10.The protesters will march on the British Consulate with a letter for the new British Ambassador, outlining their concerns. It is estimated that more than 10,000 expats from all over the Valencia region will march.
Nine people of Albanian-Kosovan origin have been arrested in Gandia and Oliva. From their bases in these Valencian towns they have travelled as far as Calpe to break into and terrorise the occupants of villas. They would break in whether the residents were at home or not.The gang began their reign of terrorism over a year ago. They used axes and mallets to break into the homes, they would then threaten and often hit the residents. The police have arrested nine people and it is possible that there will be more arrests.Stolen items which have been recovered are on display in the Calpe Guardia Civil offices.
In Gandia the arrest of three of the gang caused a huge furore as the police took over a street ,with 20 police officers involved.Heavily armed officers took over the building where the three men were living. The others were also picked up in Gandia and locals say that the men were well integrated into society there.
There is no excuse for the way in which this gang has behaved towards normal citizens. There are those who would say that these people have come from such poor economic backgrounds that crime is there only way to survive. This is a moot point.
Last week a Villajoyosa judge placed the Mayor of Polop on the Costa Blanca behind bars and refused bail. The Mayor was placed in jail for his alleged involvement in the murder of a pervious Mayor of Polop in 2007.

The president of the Valencia region has said that he and his administration are working hard to ensure that the America’s Cup returns to Valencia in February. These international events bring huge numbers of people to the region and consequently boost the economy .The events also bring about an increase in employment for the area which once again boosts the economy. The last America’s Cup and the Volvo Ocean contributed about 7 billion euros to the coffers of the Valencia economy.
The decision to hold the 33rd America’s Cup in the city could still be reversed even though on November 10 Alinghi declared that that is where it would take place. This announcement was made because it was felt that there was no other venue to use. This decision was only brought about because of a court ruling and as we all know court rulings can be reversed. The Mayor of Valencia and the president of the Valencia region realise that the race decision could be reversed .However they are remaining positive and preparing for an outcome which favours Valencia. The Velas i Vents building is already having a coat of paint.
