Completion of the road which will link Orihuela to the A-7 motorway is imminent. The Director general of Public Works for the Valencian Community visited the site with the Mayor of Orihuela last week. They confirmed that the road link will connect Orihuela directly with the N-340 and the A-7 and that it will be functioning by may 2010.
The project is part of the Department for Infrastructures “Highways Plan” and is designed to improve the communications and access between the city and the surrounding major towns. The work has been carried out to the west of Orihuela and so secures the closest access to the A-7.It should resolve the tailbacks which are frequently caused by the sheer volume of traffic heading from Murcia to Orihuela. Work it appears is making progress at a very pleasing rate and the Mayor and the Director General showed how delighted they were.
In Torrevieja a gang attempted to remove the cash machine from the CAm bank on Calle Caballero de Rodas during the early hours of the morning.Luckily they were not successful.
The police in orihuela are investigating the relationship between Latin youth gangs in the area. There has been some tension between Latin youths in the town and it resulted in a riot recently. It seems that a gang from Orihuela and a gang from Murcia are doing the fighting. The rioting could have been a staged form of initiation into a gang.Several arrests were made during this riot.
A Callosa de Segura man is suspectedof robbing 13 cars as well as carrying out a house burglary in the Vega baja area. When officers attempted to arrest the 24 year old he tried to attack them with a plank of wood. Both the National Police and the Guardia Civil were involved in his arrest which eventually took place at his home .
A man has been arrested in Alicante because he has taken on the identity of several different people. One was a woman who died two years ago.

Las Norias High School in Montforte ,in Alicante Province, has had its headteacher suspended for 20 days. His suspension is without pay and it has been at the behest of the regional education department.
It appears that students at the school turned a picture of the Regional Education Minister upside down and posted a message”Unwelcome Person” next to it.The Education Department believe that the headteacher condoned the act of the students. One would like to think that in a democracy that he was entitled to do just that .he should also have the right to disagree with the Minister for education if he so chooses.
Happily the teachers at the school are supporting their headteacher and are protesting at what they perceive to be an unjust suspension. The school it appearsĀ is having a difficult time without someone at the head leading it .The headteacher was also the PE teacher and consequently he is being missed in more than one way.
Plan 2000E was launched by the Spanish government in May 2009.It is a plan which was launched to stimulate the motor industry. At the beginning of february 2010 the scheme saw 268,793 sales. The government has been very pleased with the result and consequently they have extended the scheme into 2010.
The government has set aside 100 million euros to boost salesĀ and manufacturing in the car industry.A new car buyer will still receive 2000 euros ,500 from the Ministry ,1000 euros from the manufacturer and 500 euros from the CCAA towards the purchase. This of course is for a brand new vehicle.
The second hand market is not so pleased with the scheme as they sell many cars at a premium price in Spain. This applies particularly to the luxury end of the market. It is often cheaper to buy a second hand car in the UK,Germany or Belgium and transport it to dspain rather than buy one here.
One result of this new initiative is that over 250,000 old cars have now been scrapped and will never get into the second hand car market. So if you have a car which is worth less than 2000 euros ,which you want to get rid of and purchase a new one then you are still able to do so in 2010.
