The ” integration initiative ” which has been promoted in Javea has got under way at last .More than 200 people took part in the inaugural session in the town’s IES Numero 1 secondary school .

The idea of the project is to link those who speak different languages in order for them to talk to ech other and learn from each other ..The project has started with English and Spanish .At a later date the town hall is thinking of adding French and German .These four languages are but a small sample of all of the languages spoken in Javea .The town hall thinks that there could be as many as eighty different nationalities .

The mayor attended the initial ceremony to open the project officially and two other councillors explained to the audience how it is all supposed to work .

The audience was then divided into groups with a coordinator and these groups can now meet up and do what they want to do as many times as they choose .

When the local police in Orihuela Costa stopped a car last week they discovered many items in the car which they suspected of being stolen .The driver was Algerian and the police now believe that he has been responsible for a number of thefts in the area recently .Inside the Honda car they found a laptop , MP3 player , compact disc player , satellite navigation system and two leather jackets .

Another incident involved a Citoen car with two drivers .They had been reported for driving around in a suspicious fashion in the early hours of the morning .When the police tried to apprehend them the car drove off at speed and a chase ensued .Eventually they were apprehended and they then tried to run away on foot .One was arrested after a brief chase but the other remains at large .The police found a number of objects on his person which had been stolen only hours before .A gold bracelet , two mobile phones , a small clock as well as the keys to the car which they believe was also stolen in San Miguel de Salinas in December. The people had numerous other offences which they had committed and consequently they are being remanded in custody .Police believe that they have broken up a prolific burglary ring and have warned the public to be careful and cautious .They expect burglaries to increase due to the current economic crisis .

An international fraud has seen the arrest of six people in Barcelona , Madrid and Alicante .They are accused of a huge fraud of the London Stock exchange amounting to more than 450 million euros .It appears that an ex-Mossad agent was behind the swindle plus a former advisor to a disgraced Spanish banker .

A 14 year old girl who disappeared from a care centre in Gran Canaria has been found safe and well .She disappeared on the 23 rd of january and was found dischevelled and hungry on the 26th i nerby Castillo del Romeral .It appears that she had slept at the homes of different friends each night .

In 2006 27 of the airport workers in Barcelona occupied the runways and caused great disruption to the airport .They are now facing sentencing in court and could face 4 years in prison if they are found guilty of air traffic offenses .More than 500 flights had to be cancelled and this affected more than 100,000 passengers beginning their summer holidays .

More than 20 javea residents burst into a council meeting last week to protest against a mobile telephone mast which had been erected outside their homes .They have been making protests for two years about the plans to erect this mast on this rural stretch of road and planning permission was only given very recently , a decision which has made these residents very angry .They fear that the radiations emitted from the mast will have serious effects on their health , particularly in the development of cancer .

The powers that be deny that there is any such link but cases have been cited and the cause has been thought to be these radiations .It is the ministry of industry which makes these decisionas and the mayor has said that the council has to oversee the works as directed .

A villa which was being built in a rural area of javea on a 12,000 square metre plot has been demolished .The owner made an unsuccessful appeal to the Constitutional Court .The house was being built by the owner and his claim was that even if the build was illegal it could have been legalised very easily .He says that if the plot is over 10,000 square metres a residential property can be built there .

He , it seems , applied for planning permission and started to build before this came through , a practice which is common in Javea , according to sources from the town hall ..However the Ministry of Housing did not sanction the first phase of the development and the council rejected the application .

After ” appealing ” to the council the builder says that he had permission to build by means of ” administrative ” silence , whereby the council has automatically given permission via their silence to actually reject it before a given deadline .

One of the builders neighbours reported the continued building of the house to the council and the council rejected the application once again .It is claimed that the ” neighbour ” used blackmail on the builder saying that he would withdraw his complaint for 150,000 euros .The mayor and the planning councillor were both said to be ” between a rock and a hard place ” over these issues .They could also have got into trouble if they had granted permission after the Constitutional Court had denied it .So the house was bulldozed .
