Belgian police have arrested,together with the Spanish Guardia Civil,an ETA suspect.The effort was a joint one and the suspect is Luis Maria Zengotitabengoa Fernandez.

The arrest took place in the Belgian town of Ostend in the early hours of the morning.

A European arrest warrant had been issued by the Spanish National Court for the 29 year old Fernandez who comes from Durango ( Biscay).

The alleged involvement of this man with ETA revolves around the transport of explosives for the illegal group.The materials were transported to Portugal earlier this year.

He had an involvement with a property in Portugal where 1500 kilos of materials for the manufacture of explosives were stored.

Fernandez appears on a Guardia Civil list of “Most Wanted” men in ETA.It is alleged that he supported the outlawed group.

During 2010 67 people have been arrested because of their alleged involvement with the terrorist organisation.Many have been arrested with the help of foreign police forces.

Five days down a disused mine shaft could cause the death of most people but a young woman from Redovan near Orihuela survived such an ordeal.

It appears that the young woman was walking past a disused brick factory when the ground beneath her gave way and she disappeared down the hole.

She lay there for 5 days without food or water.

A man walking his dog in the area allowed the dog to run free and suddenly the dog was barking at the entrance to a hole.The man suddenly realised that there was someone down the pit and called the emergency services.

The fire and ambulance services were on the scene very rapidly and the woman was taken to the Vega Baja hospital where she was treated for exhaustion,dehydration and minor injuries.

It is believed that recent rains had made the ground unstable,causing it to crumble beneath her feet.The woman was retained in hospital for observation.

President Ripoll of Alicante Province has indicated that he would relish another term in office.Next May there will be elections for all councillors and the PP representitive for the ^Province would like another go at the job.This despite allegations of corruption hanging in the air.Sr Ripoll has also endorsed  the Valencian President,Francisco Camps to remain in post.He told the press last week that Camps was the best person for the job.He even indicated that he would welcome seeing Camps go for the national PP leadership post.

If Sr Ripoll was re-elected it would be for another 4 years from 2011.Because of the corruption allegations which have surrounded both men it has been felt that they have both struggled to maintain their positions.

In November it will be announced just who will lead the PP in both the provincial and regional elections.Both men have a great deal to do before each of them can be confident that the positions will be theirs.
